“Michi(道)”

What you find through Shinkiryu is your own “Michi(道)”

What is “道”?

Through Shinkiryu we would like everyone to pursue their own “Michi(道).”

What is “Michi?”

If we translate it into Japanese simply, “Michi” means “a way” or “a path.”
However, it means more than that.

First, the kanji “道”can be broken down into two parts, “首” and “⻌.”
“首” means “a neck” which implies “life,” and “⻌” represents a path to a peak of a mountain.

In addition, the pronunciation of “道” is also a key. “道” is pronounced as “Mi-Chi” which is the same pronunciation of “未知” and “身血.”

The first one, “未知,” means something unknown, and the second one, “身血,” means a body and blood.

In conclusion, “Michi(道)” is a pursuit of the ultimate truth requiring us to devote our lives in which process we continue to realize the unknown not only in the head but also in the body.

You have your own “道”

In Japanese culture, we have some traditions with “Michi(道)” in their names such as “Bushi-do(武士道),” “Sa-do(茶道),” meaning tea ceremony, “Sho-do(書道),” meaning calligraphy, “Kyu-do(弓道),” meaning Japanese archery, and so.

All of them are “Michi” in the definition we’ve seen now, and “Michi” is true in every field in life, including the following.

If you are a teacher, you can try to improve yourself more and more as a teacher, and the deed is “Michi.”

If you are a pastry chef, you may never stop pursuing to make the best cake, and the attempt is “Michi.”

If you are a father or a mother, you may seek to be the best father or mother, and the attitude is “Michi.”

And it is said that if you aim to reach the ultimate truth by devoting your lives, you will get to the same thing in spite of differences of fields.

One of the famous Samurai, Musashi Miyamoto, was famous as a master swordsman in a sense, but he was said to be talented in art.

This shows well that when you master something in the real meaning, you can perform in a high level in some different fields.

In Shikiryu, we mainly work on Bushi-do, through which process we can learn what is “Michi” and what to do in “Michi,” and we will grasp the ultimate truth, the laws of nature in other words.

In due course you will be able to reapply those things in a field you are engaged in to pave your own “Michi.”
